[he doesn't get much by way of sleep at night, so he finds himself often taking naps when Pandora's busy with her phone. Prometheus only wakes up when he notices Pandora's growing confusion. He blinks a couple of times before leaning over to read the texts she has on her phone..]
What's got you so worked up? [he pauses as he reads a little further, then laughs softly bitterly] It's a few centuries too late for that. Is everyone here a hopeless optimist?
[he turns his head into Pandora's shoulder and knows the exhaustion he feels goes deeper than lack of sleep and slowly recovering energy levels. He seems almost out of character, now that he's not posturing for others to see, but the grimace grin on his face remains ever the same]
Heh. It'd be like how one of our dear friends puts it... 'That's not our function'. We were never meant to be happy.
[It's probably physically noticeable by this point- she never used to fidget, being in strict control of herself. But her shoulders shift, her human lungs sigh irritation and something else, deep and ugly and isolating, like a black hole in her weak, human organs.]
Free will... self-awareness... simply because we have the potential to experience happiness, these things only served to hurt us further.
It's not something humans would understand.
[In the company of only Prometheus, her words come more easily, the tiny notes of emotion ringing clearer for him than for anyone else. Pandora turns to him as well, gently resting her cheek over his head.
Tired. There was nothing else to feel but tired anymore.]
Obviously. How could they hope to understand what it's like to be a tool?
[they were old. They didn't look it, they didn't usually act the part either... But between the centuries and the drain just before they woke up here--]
It's hard not to feel empty.
[a soft laugh] And of course that old man had planned for that too. Bastard.
...We would have been too satisfied... with a more poetic punishment.
One leaves us more hollow than before... that's truly torturous.
[Free of that man, free of megamerge, free for the first time in their lives to possibly experience something truly positive in it, but too far gone, seen to much, done too much for any of it to matter...]
[there's a heavy sigh as he talks] Let's just hope it doesn't take another few centuries before it decides to spring it on us. I think my patience is almost completely worn out.
i wonder how hard it might be to try and mislead people. there are those detective types among us after all but if the original perpetrators decide to not help... that sounds like an interesting idea, doesn't it?

[She doesn't laugh- only sighs, soft and slow, sounding defeated.]
To provide more space for it to fill.
[No need to elaborate on 'it'. Even if it wasn't corrently present- even with the shackles gone- the damage had already been done.]

... [he turns his head into Pandora's shoulder and hums... Something? Agreement? Disappointment? Maybe it was meant to be everything]
All those years... All to be some AAA meal for it. [a pause] Why are we even here?

... It just leaves us to spin in circles. Does it expect us to seek atonement?
I would think we're too far gone for that.
